You know what is interesting, the faces I draw without a reference all look the same. I’d like to introduce you to the girl in my head. I’m sure I could change her up a little but really, this is the girl in my head. Below I’ve also added other faces I’ve drawn from “imagination” (i.e. – no photo reference).
All the other girls that look different happened because I was using a photo reference from my faces pinboard – or because I was looking at a human – which, to be honest, only happened in one meeting. Drawing faces from life has been a challenge because I don’t want people to watch me drawing – too much pressure. Maybe that’s a future step.
Dina Wakley and Dyan Reaveley have an online Back2Back collage class on Dina’s website which I recently watched. I think both of their styles are pretty cool and was inspired to try some of the techniques.
Dina always says that mixed-media needs more restraint and I totally agree. In fact, I might have gotten a little carried away – but live and learn. It was fun to make and, really, that is all that matters. I create for my own soul.
I thought the class was good – so, if you are interested in that sort of thing – give it a go.
